Dr. Rowin was elected to the Society for Pediatric Research in November 2002. The Society for Pediatric Research is a prestigious national society that recognizes individuals engaed in independent research who are making important contributions to the field of pediatrics.
Dr. Rowin was recognized at the 3rd World Congress on Pediatric Intensive Care by the World Federation of Pediatric Intensive and Critical Care Societies, receiving the Best Basic Research Award for his abstract entitled "Hypothermia decreases intracranial pressure, brain edema and mortality in bacterial meningitis."
Pediatric critical care medicine focuses on providing care to patients under age 20 years who are or who could be at risk of becoming critically ill. The intensivists at Children's care for patients admitted to the ICU for severe infection, multiple trauma, intoxications, respiratory and cardiovascular instability, dialysis and brain injury. The pediatric intensive care unit at Children's is staffed by a group of trained intensivists serving Children's 20-county area.
These specialists have a particular interest in research on the improvement of outcome after shock and neuroresuscitation. They are available by phone to assist in the emergency stabilization of children from southern Ohio, northern Kentucky and Indiana.
